![]() A lot can be said about the bliss one feels after a yoga class that ends with a cool lavender towel. When I, Hannah, first began my journey of yoga in studios, I took every hot class I could get my hands on. It wasn't exactly the heat that kept me going....it was that cold lavender towel at the end! I would patiently await that towel every day! I would wake up early, go to work, sit through traffic to get to class, put my body in as many pretzels as it would allow, sweat pouring down into my eyes, and then finally, ahhhhh...that cool lavender towel! I realized my favorite part of class was savasana of course- but the healing calmness of lavender pulled me in wanting more each time! When I finally started branching out into non-hot classes (yes you heard me...I was a hot vinyasa junkie) I noticed that the teachers didn't use lavender, nor cold towels, at the end. Which is completely ok- but I loved that extra little perk of relaxation at the end, that delicious lavender. As I began teacher training, I dove deeper into essential oils. Learning about the healing modalities in regards to moods, emotions, rather than just their antibacterial, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory benefits. Once I fully understood their effectiveness and importance to helping me reach my goals in my yoga practice (my yoga practice is to tame this 100 mph a minute mind, calm my heart, soothe my soul, and dive deeper into the Truth that lies within me), I knew I had to add them to my teaching as well. "Practitioners of aromatherapy believe that fragrances in the oils stimulate nerves in the nose. Those nerves send impulses to the part of the brain that controls memory and emotion. Depending on the type of oil [the scent], the result on the body may be calming or stimulating." (WebMD.com) There is a science to essential oils. Scent helps us to recall moments from our memory and is highly emotive. What better way to help us relax! Unwind is a Slow Flow Yoga class I have pieced together with essential oils that will help aid in the relaxation of the yoga asanas. We will go through a few Sun Salutations, very slowly, exploring our body, our mind, and our heart, all while experiencing the healing modalities of the essential oils. If you want to be a part of this delicious blissful class this Friday at 6:30pm, you can sign up HERE!
