![]() Kids Yoga is a wonderful way to get your kids moving, using their imagination, and give them the tools to becoming aware. A lot of schools are understanding the importance of yoga and the increased concentration amongst their students. Therefore, performing better on tests, etc. In our kids classes, we start with an introduction to get the kids comfortable with the group and their teacher. We then work on breathing exercises to calm the kids. From there we begin the asana, poses, where they can use their imagination and create poses as well. We read a story and discuss things we should do and not do (Niyamas and Yamas from the 8 Limbs of Yoga). And then we use our imagination to go to a happy place where we can relax and be free! But there are SO many more benefits than just concentration.

![]() I know it’s not often you run into a guy who isn’t squeamish about buying a box of pads or tampons on an emergency run, much less a guy who puts his picture on an event saying “bring me tampons.” Growing up with two older sisters...it just doesn’t bother me. Nor should it really, it’s just a function of the body. Sorry guys, but get over it. What did bother me, however, was a video I watched that popped up on my Facebook feed one day. It was a short documentary about the needs of homeless women. In particular, it focused on the needs of women that weren’t being met in shelters or donation facilities. The number one request that was not being met was hygiene products. Women are not receiving the help they need and if they can’t find a way to make do, they have to suffer through their menstrual cycle without any personal hygiene products. This Horizon event was put together with the intention of helping fill that need. Friday night we will focus specifically on joint locking techniques and chokes. Joint locking is the method of controlling the body by rotating and aligning bones in the body in such a way that it limits motion or “locks” the body or joint. Typically you can expect to see these techniques done on the wrist, elbow, and shoulder. They can also be applied to the ankles, knees, and hips. These techniques can be used as way to immobilize someone or to move them to a place you want them to be. Chokes are little bit different. Simply by their nature they are an elevated threat response. You don’t choke someone unconscious just because they annoy you...no matter how much you may want to! Chokes can be classified into two categories: airway restriction and blood flow restriction. Either can take only seconds to render a person unconscious. If held too long even death can occur. So on Friday night we’ll be training some of the major joint locks and chokes found in the martial arts and their self defense applications. There are a lot of details involved to make these work effectively and even more to train them safely. Be ready to come make new friends….and then choke them! Train Hard! -Sifu David Mitchell ![]() HERizon Red Tent Temple is a place for women to come together and empower one another! Rising together to claim our own power! 2 years ago in March I was approaching my graduation from Yoga Teacher Training at Be Yoga in Downtown Marietta and I remember sitting down to reflect on how far I had come, as well as other dreams I wanted to manifest. A Red Tent was on this short list. I always knew that I wanted to be a part of something that would help women find empowerment. Where women could come together and raise one another up, as well as learn new things from the other women in their community! On my honeymoon back in May, I was sitting on the beach with my husband reading Women Who Run with The Wolves. It truly spoke to me and woke up something inside of me... "Healthy wolves & healthy women share certain psychic characteristics. Keen sensing, playful spirit, and a heightened capacity for devotion. Wolves & women are relational by nature inquiring, possessed of great endurance & strength. They are deeply intuitive, intensely concerned with their young, their mates, and their pack. They are experienced in adapting to constantly changing circumstances; they are fiercely stalwart and very brave" Women Who Run With the Wolves - Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés. I realized that there are other wolves, women, out there who are looking for their pack. I looked at my husband and told him I wanted to start a Red Tent. And so here we are! When Horizon Training Center came into my life, my business partners wife- and my dear friend, Hannah Mitchell, and I began the brainstorming for a Red Tent- HERizon! We knew we had the space, and the intention, that it would come to fruition! What is our intention? Hannah Squared (Hannah Hutcheson and Hannah Mitchell) hope to empower other women, bring women together and stop the divide of judgement/insecurities/etc, educate women on the power that we harness, educate one another on topics ranging from networking to crocheting, sharing a sacred space with beautiful souls, and eventually providing a space where we can bring in the next generation of women and teach them how to embrace their bodies, their menstrual cycles, and know that they will always have a pack of wolves right beside them! What is a Red Tent? A Red Tent is where women gather in a circle, from all different walks of life, and share with their hearts open and leaving any preconceived notions and judgement outside of the tent. This is a place where we care for one another and nurture ourselves with healing, song, meditation, story telling, council, music, and sharing. We learn about our bodies and their cycles, the lunar cycles, reconnecting to Earth, rewilding ourselves to our natural self, and develop and nurture ways to cope. We are nurturing a sacred Sisterhood that so many of us have lost in today's competitive society. Join us, Friday, January 27th, at the HERizon Red Tent Temple Hosted by Horizon Training Center as we empower our fellow sisters, learn from one another, network amongst a group of like minded sisters, and learn more about ourselves, our world, and claim our power in this world! 6:30-7 is for everyone to get comfortable and we will not start our sharing circle until 7:30. So please, do not feel the need to rush! We will be here for you! We will be providing a vegetarian chili for our first HERizon Red Tent Temple, so please RSVP so we know how much to provide. Feel free to bring a small snack, dish, or drink to share with one another. However, we do ask that there is no alcohol respecting any sisters that may be in recovery as well as honoring the sacred space that we are making together. Also, please feel free to bring your musical instruments, cards, healing hands, etc to share with your sisters. This is a place of unconditional love and giving! Also, if you would like, wear red! A Love Donation is asked of $10 to enter the tent. ![]() A lot can be said about the bliss one feels after a yoga class that ends with a cool lavender towel. When I, Hannah, first began my journey of yoga in studios, I took every hot class I could get my hands on. It wasn't exactly the heat that kept me going....it was that cold lavender towel at the end! I would patiently await that towel every day! I would wake up early, go to work, sit through traffic to get to class, put my body in as many pretzels as it would allow, sweat pouring down into my eyes, and then finally, ahhhhh...that cool lavender towel! I realized my favorite part of class was savasana of course- but the healing calmness of lavender pulled me in wanting more each time! When I finally started branching out into non-hot classes (yes you heard me...I was a hot vinyasa junkie) I noticed that the teachers didn't use lavender, nor cold towels, at the end. Which is completely ok- but I loved that extra little perk of relaxation at the end, that delicious lavender. As I began teacher training, I dove deeper into essential oils. Learning about the healing modalities in regards to moods, emotions, rather than just their antibacterial, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory benefits. Once I fully understood their effectiveness and importance to helping me reach my goals in my yoga practice (my yoga practice is to tame this 100 mph a minute mind, calm my heart, soothe my soul, and dive deeper into the Truth that lies within me), I knew I had to add them to my teaching as well. "Practitioners of aromatherapy believe that fragrances in the oils stimulate nerves in the nose. Those nerves send impulses to the part of the brain that controls memory and emotion. Depending on the type of oil [the scent], the result on the body may be calming or stimulating." (WebMD.com) There is a science to essential oils. Scent helps us to recall moments from our memory and is highly emotive. What better way to help us relax! Unwind is a Slow Flow Yoga class I have pieced together with essential oils that will help aid in the relaxation of the yoga asanas. We will go through a few Sun Salutations, very slowly, exploring our body, our mind, and our heart, all while experiencing the healing modalities of the essential oils. If you want to be a part of this delicious blissful class this Friday at 6:30pm, you can sign up HERE! ![]() I always have the hardest time truly describing Reiki to those who have never experienced the healing touch... I always knew that it was something that I wanted, for myself. A gift that when the world got too crazy, or my body and mind felt out of sync, I could heal myself... My first attunement was with the radiating soul Emily, who leads our Reiki Certifications at Horizon Training Center. The only feeling that I can compare my fist attunement to was like being in a nice warm bath- floating- feeling free and weightless. The weight of the world escaped me. My body felt at peace. My mind was free. It always makes me think of that "womb like" feeling. Is this what it feels like being a baby in the womb? Peace. Contentment. Santosha. Emily leads you through amazing practices to heal yourself with Self Reiki as well as practicing Reiki on others. She also leads you to understand more about yourself, down to the core, guiding you on a journey that will forever change your life. The guided meditations have helped unlock thoughts and patterns in my own life that I have not allowed to surface for some time. The Reiki Circle helps give me the tools to understand these patterns that I need to break and the support which is crucial. Why should you get Reiki Certified? You don't HAVE to practice it on others. You can do it just for yourself! Fill your own cup! It is a way to reset your own mind, body, soul, and energy field! Plus- the community that you acquire supports you along the way- always! Some words from our Reiki Master Emily: "Rei means “God’s Wisdom" or "Higher Power" and Ki is “life force energy”. Guided life force energy-WOW! Prior to my first session I had never heard of Reiki. Then Reiki catapulted my journey of healing, releasing and self-discovery. It is my joy to share this beautiful healing modality with others. You never know where it will take you. I would be thrilled to be a part of your journey!" ~ Emily Reiki Level 1 (February 25th) Covers: History of Reiki, Level 1 Attunement, Reiki Principles, Hand positions for self Reiki, and Hand positions for giving Reiki to family and friends. And what better intention for the New Year than to find balance! 2016 was a hard year for many...Leaving many of us feeling unbalanced and out of our orbit of health! Start 2017 off right with us @ Horizon Training Center!
Our Balanced Body Bootcamp is our way of finding harmony in our body & mind with proper nutrition, exercise, and meditation. We understand that to live a full and healthy life, we must be balanced in many different aspects of our life. We will cover 3 areas in our Balanced Body Bootcamp: A healthy mind, a healthy body in motion, and a healthy body through proper nutrition. When I (Hannah H.) think about health, I think about what fuel I am putting into my body, what/how much motion my body gets each day, and where do my thoughts take me (Are the positive, or are they negative and cylical?)? Too often do I get in a rush of life and forget to eat, forget to make that time to exercise (you only need 30 minutes a day!), and because I forget to do these things I beat myself up about them... I have been there. I know how it works. And Horizon Training Center is here to help you overcome these negative reactions to life and help you find that balance that is very POSSIBLE in our busy life! To me, balance is a hard thing to maintain because we often are not in the right mindset and of course, we are creatures of habit and stick with what we know and feel comfortable with....Well...Have I got news for you- this doesn't allow us to grow! And to achieve balance in our life, we have to be willing to try new things! So if you've never done yoga- I can assure you that you need it! If you only do yoga, I can assure you that your body needs the discipline from Martial Arts! If you only take TRX (or workout at the gym/run/etc), I can assure you that your body needs recovery time and time to SLOW down! This 6 week program asks you to complete 3 workouts a week with us: 1 Yoga/Meditation class, 1 Martial Arts class, and 1 TRX class. We will begin by setting our goals that we hope to achieve over the duration of the bootcamp. We will also take measurements, weight, and provide journals so we can journal our thoughts, mood, energy levels, workouts, and what we ate that day. You will also be provided with a few choices of nutritional meal plans, nutrition coaching, personal fitness coaching, and life coaching. Those who sign up also get 20% off of massages through the duration of the program with Balanced Bodywork! The cost for this life changing bootcamp is only $240! We will meet January 7th for our first meet up where we will set goals, take measurements, meet the crew, and have a great first workout! From there- we will then cover what is to be expected throughout the remainder of the 6 weeks! To sign up follow the link and sign up under January 7th! https://clients.mindbodyonline.com/classic/home?studioid=265871 |
